Meghan Markle have helped gather a charity cookbook to support and benefit victims of the Grenfell tower fire. The Hubb community Kitchen consists of a group of women who have gathered weekly at Al Manaar Muslim Culture Heritage Center. The community have managed to prepare and feed neighbors and friends who were affected by the 2017 Grenfell tower fire in which 72 people died. Those, whose homes have been shattered after the fire, found the prepared meals by the community an opportunity to heal from the tragedy, and a way to help them stand back on their feet. The cookbook is titled “Together Our Community Cookbook,” gathers 50 recipes from around the world, “the power of cooking to bring communities together.”
Meghan Markle the Duchess of Sussex decided to help this community and have attended many of their meetings in which they have cooked and shared their recipes together. Photographs and recipes were collaborated to create a cookbook which features both Meghan Markle’s and the women from the community. During her cookbook journey, Meghan befriended some of the women in the community.
“I immediately felt connected to this community kitchen; it is a place for women to laugh, grieve, cry and cook together,” Markle wrote in the forward of the book.
“Melding cultural identities under a shared roof … creates a space to feel a sense of normalcy — in its simplest form, the universal need to connect, nurture, and commune through food, through crisis or joy — something we can all relate to,” Markle added.
Meghan Markle’s friends were also supportive of her generous act and have congratulated her on her cookbook. One of those friends is Serena Williams, the two have met in 2010 at the super Bowl and became close friends ever since. Williams shared her support on social media saying,
“I used to call you Meghan (and I still do) but dear Duchess of Sussex your first project ‘Together’ a cookbook bringing women of all cultures together. I could not be more excited about it and proud of you, It’s beautiful – diversity, inclusivity, coming together in grief or joy – there is just so much love.”
Piryanka Chopra also shared her support for Markle on Instagram “So proud of you for this new endeavor Meghan,” she said. “This is everything you always stood for. Women supporting women. Supporting communities. Bringing Togetherness. Here you do it again. Keep making the world smile babe!”
